Australian Privacy Laws
Your privacy is very important to Intelligent Border Solutions. We treat personal information as confidential. Information received by Intelligent Border Solutions is protected from unauthorised disclosure by virtue of the Privacy Act 1988, and the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000. A breach of these laws makes an employee liable to a criminal and/or civil penalty. Your personal information will not be disclosed unless the law permits it or you give your permission. What is HTTPS? Whenever this site requests personal information, it uses a protocol, HyperText Transport Protocol Secure (HTTPS), under which the data is encrypted before transmission from your browser to the web site. If your browser does not support this secure protocol, you will not be able to use this website to obtain an ETA. While Intelligent Border Solutions provides the most secure environment possible, you should be aware there are inherent risks associated with the transmission of information via the Internet. What Information Is Collected? Information you provide in support of your ETA application is processed to enable the ETA to be issued to you and then stored by the Australian Government so you can use the ETA to travel to Australia, but credit card data is not retained after the application has been processed. Additionally, when visiting this site, a record of your visit is logged. Information is recorded for statistical purposes and used by Intelligent Border Solutions to monitor the use of the site to enable improvement of the service. As an additional protection of your privacy, this system is audited to ensure that no transgressions of privacy remain undetected. The information we log when you access our website is:
No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the system's logs. Additionally, when you use e-mail we will record your e-mail address but only use it for the purpose for which you provided it. It will not be added to a mailing list unless you have specifically requested this nor will we disclose it or use it for any other purpose without your consent. What are Cookies? Cookies are pieces of information that a website can transfer to an individual's computer hard drive for record keeping. Cookies can make websites easier to use by storing information about your preferences on a particular website. The information remains on your computer after the Internet session finishes but you can delete them using some browsers, manually or using system utilities. Most Internet browsers are pre-set to accept cookies. If you prefer not to receive cookies, you can adjust your Internet browser to refuse cookies or to warn you when cookies are being used. This site will work more efficiently if receipt of cookies is enabled but it will still operate correctly if you disable cookies. Are there Other Ways of Getting an ETA? If you do not wish to use the Internet to obtain your ETA, there are other ways of applying for an ETA or determining your visa status. Other options are attending a travel agent or airline office. More Information? If you have privacy concerns, please contact us by clicking on the System Problems link. You can also obtain further information from the Privacy Commissioner's website. |
