This visa allows Australian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor a fiancé to immigrate to Australia. The wedding should take place within 9 months of arrival in Australia as this visa is for people who genuinely intend to marry. For a Fiancé Visa, you must apply from overseas only at a cost of AUD$1,340. You will need a medical assessment, usually AUD$300. There is a further processing fee paid in Australia after your marriage as the Fiancé Visa is only Temporary.

The first stage of processing happens when you send in your application in your overseas country. If your application is satisfactory, you are granted a Temporary Fiancé Visa, which allows you to travel to Australia for the wedding. When you are married, you can apply for a Provisional Spouse Visa, also Temporary. Lastly, when you have lived here for two years and the relationship is considered successful, you are granted a permanent Spouse Visa. Interviews by DIMA are normal for this Visa.
